What is an XPS file?
XPS (XML Paper Specification) is a fixed-layout document format created by Microsoft, similar in purpose to PDF. It's commonly created when printing documents on Windows using the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" virtual printer. OXPS is the newer, Open Packaging Conventions version of the same format. Because XPS isn't widely supported outside Windows, converting it to PDF makes the file viewable and shareable on any device — Mac, Linux, iPhone, or Android.
How this converter works
This tool reads the XML and embedded resources inside your XPS file directly in your browser and rebuilds each page as a PDF page, preserving text, layout, and embedded images where possible. Your file is processed locally — nothing is uploaded to a server, so your documents stay private.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. There's no signup, no watermark, and no file limit beyond the 50MB cap shown above.
OXPS is simply a later, standardized version of XPS using the Open Packaging Conventions container format. Both convert the same way with this tool.
Most layouts, fonts, and embedded images convert cleanly. Files with unusual embedded font subsets or complex vector art may need the Windows "Print to PDF" fallback shown above.
